The Existance of this Site Unfortunately Extended Once more
It really pains me to see the existance of this two bit hack version of a website perpetuated even further than it ever should have been. If anyone can answer why this person is paraded along talk and news circuits as the sole representative of the online film community, perpetuating the worst of the internet film geek stereotype for the mainstream populace to mock, please let me know.
This sites format looks slightly better than what a 5 year old MS patient with finger paints can do. It is entirely unnavigable. Very unproffessional. About as in depth as the cover page of USA Today (popcorn journalism at its best) And worst of all, it continually degrades the already questionable good name of 'internet journalism'.
Yet people come here. The mainstream media feeds their biggest tidbits to this sorry specimen of a journalist. Perhaps this is a means to eliminate serious competition? If the mainstream movie press holds up an incapable hack as the paradigm of the internet film community, then noone will truly take it seriously. And people will continue to watch ET and Extra for their outdated film scoops.
And this current debacle, which I don't doubt is real, has spiked the already undeserved internet traffic to this website to ridiculous heights. As a moviebuff and frequent internet movie sight goer, I did not elect Harry Knowles to be my representative. How he came to prominence is an utter mystery and he casts a disgusting example of our entire group. Harry Knowles gives internet journalism, film buffs, internet goers, and just about anyone else remotely connected to this burgeoning franchise a terribly bad name.
He is also under this pretentious notion that he himself is a celebrity. His reviews continually begin with a page or two on his eating habits, what song was on the radio before he parked, how sore the blisters on his feet were, and a load of other nonsensical crap that noone cares about. All in the frantically pathetic pursuit of making his own life seem important in the grand scheme of things. And as others have pointed out, unlike respectable critics who actually get salary from respected journalism entities, Harry Knowles has his face perpetually buried in the arse of any major film creator, director, or studio who provides him with the slightest hint of inside information. He is unreliable. His reviews uncredible. And his opinions, much like another large greasy public figure, turn continually on the wheel of public opinion. Whereever the winds may blow or the powers that be choose to nudge him, Harry will go. Yet the memory of even the internet community are too short to recall this.
I've not visited this site in some time. It took a scoop of this magnitude to bring me here. And I'm already sorry to have wasted my time. Perhaps a few will actually read this and spare themselves the misery of being a continual regular to this horrid site.
